i did this about a week ago, but haven't had time to post it now. this "holiday" is awfully busy for a vacation.
this is a cover test for a personal project. i like digital paintings that feel like paintings- i'm trying to reach that in my own work, but it's a slow process.

Last year, I wouldn't have considered myself an animator- but I had a lot of fun this year, especially on the expression change. I love the performance and story aspect of animation. Not sure about the technical part quite yet ;)
(the only thing I'm not posting is the wave boat sack. because it's rather boring :P)

end of my third semester- and it was good and bad and about every shade of grey later. i'm currently back in vancouver, my hometown, and without a scanner, so i'll be posting some of my stuff from this term (animation next!).
here are the first two painting assignments- the last one of the term was my favorite, but i forgot to scan it before i left.
also some digital cafe sketching from the airport.

the best of my royal winter fair drawings this year and two pencil drawings of Polly from Diana Wynne Jones' novel "Fire and Hemlock". "Fire and Hemlock" is one of those stories that's wormed its way into my psyche over the years. It's grown with me and changed me. The scene I was trying to illustrate comes right at the end of the novel when Polly is traveling on Laurel's train-
"If I'd been thinking of you at all," Polly said, angry and remorseful, "I could have seen through that. She only lied when I asked. You taught me about sentimental drivel, but I didn't think of that once!"

the moustache man is for the sheridan animation tshirts. i hope they make it, i love moustaches.
edit: the images look weird, and I can't figure out why?

our assignment was to take the fairytale "King Thrushbeard" and make it your own... I took Thrushbeard right back to the 60s. it was a blast, and I don't normally say this, but I'm really proud of myself. a lot of the things we did I'd never really attempted before (like drawing cars, or even digital painting). I feel like my story is cohesive, if a little silly. so even though I have a long way to go, this was a good start, and now I want to do this sort of art more.
Hopefully the story reads! (also, holy capslock, this has to be the most images i've had in one post! umm, whoo!)
later: more things! digital stuff! superheroes! character design!
